We are crow
You think we don’t know
How clever we are?
Getting food from a jar
With a wire that we took
And bent to a hook.

Feathers jet black
Smooth, shiny back
Our crow beaks are tough
If we want to play rough.

You watch us by day
We swing on the gate
You hope that we play
Don’t –

You think we’re in awe
Of a man made of straw?
We know it’s all lies
He won’t save your eyes.

You sit in the sun
But when we are done
We will meet on the wire
For your funeral pyre,

One day it will end
Our fair-weather friend
And stories will tell
How we rained down black hell.

We are crow.
